It is not often we are reminded of the sacrifice of our veterans during war time. As a veteran myself, I was deeply moved by the new World War II exhibit going on now through the end of 2019 at the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois.
This exhibit is both intimate (through the accompanying audio recorded accounts of the actual participants) and inspiring (by their examples of courage during the war). The rare artifacts on display give one a sense of time and place. It is a tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice as the voices of our greatest generation take visitors from Pearl Harbor to the beaches of Normandy and so much more in remembering World War II.
A stunning experience for the visitor, it is an exhibit that I urge every American to see for themselves while it remains on display. I personally felt a mix of nostalgia, pride, and patriotism well up within me as I took in the memories of our veterans here.
In addition, this Presidential Library holds an unparalleled collection of Lincoln books, documents, photographs, and artifacts, as well as some additional 12 million other items. For more information, visit www.PresidentLincoln.Illinois.gov.
